J'ai comparé cette constitution avec les<br />
anciens canons, et les règles qui gouvernent l'Eglise<br />
depuis son établissement par Jésus-Christ.<br />
La différence qui se trouve dans la forme de<br />
de l'ancien gouvernement, avec celui qui nous<br />
est proposé, m'a paru si grande, qu'il m'a<br />
semblé impossible de franchir l'intervalle qui<br />
sépare les deux régimes : différence dans la distribu-<br />
tion des pouvoirs ; différence dans le choix des [Ministrés],<br />
différence dans la source et la nature de la mission.<br />

Je n'ai pu reconnaître dans la nouvelle<br />
organisation l'Eglise Gallicane, cette belle partie<br />
de l'Eglise universelle qui gouverne le monde<br />
Chrétien, et à laquelle son divin Fondateur a<br />
promis son assistance jusqu'à la consommation<br />
des siècles.<br />
